Cellular Biology
In the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Laboratory we work on the following topics:
a) The development of new microfluidic methods for the production of recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies. In this project we are going to advance in the development of Lab-on-a-Chip type microfluidic devices that allow the laboratory-scale production of recombinant proteins, and in particular, for the development of an anti-HER2/neu biosimilar trastuzumab, which is used to treat breast cancer that overexpresses this oncogene.
b) The development of a recombinant monoclonal antibody as a therapy against South American Hemorrhagic Fevers and of pseudovirus systems as a diagnostic method to detect neutralizing antibodies against viral agents. This project is a continuation of the one we are carrying out in the laboratory and consists of generating a specific Fab monoclonal antibody fragment against hTfR1 that competes with the entry site of the South American pathogenic mamarenaviruses and has low secondary effects and the use of pseudoviruses to titer antibodies neutralizers.
c) The development of recombinant proteins for the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis as an alternative to PPD. This project is carried out in connection with the company Agropharma S.A.”
