IACUC
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
Created in 2016, it promotes the humane treatment of experimental animals and encourages the reduction of their use and replacement by other research methods.
The primary objective of the IACUC is to guarantee the care of laboratory animals while promoting their well-being and favoring their ethical use and considering them as sentient beings, thus avoiding or alleviating animal suffering in scientific research.
The IACUC is made up of nine members:
- five expert researchers in the areas of cancer, immunology, endocrinology, neuroscience and reproduction;
- two professionals specialized in animal care,
- a veterinarian and
- a person unrelated to research activities.
The coordination is in charge of a veterinarian highly trained in laboratory animals.
IACUC holds regular monthly meetings and may increase the frequency according to the needs of IBYME’s community.
