Neurobiology
The laboratory study the effects of hyperglycemia during the perinatal, juvenile and adult stages on the central nervous system, considering neuroendocrine, metabolic and behavioral aspects. Numerous clinical studies suggest that inappropriate glycemic control, during certain critical periods in the infant-juvenile stage, increases the incidence of functional alterations in the central nervous system in adulthood. This alterations cause, abnormal response on the reward system as well as behavioral disturbances associated with anxiety.
